6th volume of Karlstadt Critical Edition published in August 2023

In September 2023, the sixth volume of the Complete Critical Edition of Karlstadt’s Letters and Writings has been published. This volume documents the texts of 1523, when Karlstadt ceased his academic teaching and publishing. With the establishment of a parish in Orlamünde, he shifted his focus entirely to lay-based, vernacular writings and biblical exegetical instruction, indicating his increasingly radical separation from the “Wittenberg Reformation”. The texts include important mystical writings and works that identify his new engagement with the doctrine of the Lord’s Supper.
